As Wikipedia has cited, “The Met Gala, formally called the Costume Institute Gala and also known as the Met Ball, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibit. ” The met gala can be treated as the Oscar for the fashion world.

When did the history start?
“The MET Gala was first established in 1948 by Eleanor Lambert, who should be called the Queen of PR. ”
Later Anna Wintour, the editor of American Vogue and the artistic director of Condé Nast, has taken over the event in 1999 and act as the chairwoman of the gala.
The aim of Met Gala is to offer the opening night for the biggest exhibition for the Costume Museum for Metropolitan Museum. This traditional culture is from 1971, and up to nowadays.

Why is this so important?
The Costume Institute doesn’t get fund from the Metropolitan museum. In the other way, it is more relied on the outside sources to make it open and get more visitors into the place. The reason to hold Met gala is to get fundraised.
Who should I know?
Eleanor Lambert, the empress of fashion, was born in Crawfordsville, Indian. In 1930s, She acted as the Press Director of the Whitney Museum of American Art. Later on, She helped the founding of Museum of Modern Art.
In 1940s, Eleanor Lambert also took part in the International Best Dressed List, the Coty Fashion Critics’ Award (in 1943), and New York Fashion Week.
The most important, Eleanor Lambert established The MET Gala in 1948.

As we all known, Anna is the devil in ”the devil wears prada” movie. Girls feel proud of being photographed with her and be honorable to be part of the Vogue.
“Bob+shades” seems to describe her as the fashion figure.

Born in 1966, the British museum curator previously charged of Victoria and ALbert Museum for 10 years and now as the Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute in Metropolitan Museum since 2006.
With the studies in Anthropology and Non-Western Arts, Bolton has been very successful global fashion influencer.
Bolton said in Vogue, “At the V&A, fashion was a design discipline. The Met was about fashion being an art form. That was really freeing”
